Start the installation by double clicking the file. During the setup process it will download java run time files if it isn't available on your computer. You will see that there are three main tabs Download, Link grabber, Settings. Ideally you can leave the settings as it is and start using the software. Here it will tell you if a certain link is dead, alive or unavailable. For websites like rapidshare, megaupload there is no captcha code but for other websites like filesonic, fileserve, filefactory and others there is captch code which you need to enter before it starts downloading from that link . Http links like mediafire don't have any captcha code. Let's say for example you are downloading a video player software from filehippo.com. For this you can simply copy the link and jdownloader grabs it. Just click on "continue with all" and it automatically starts downloading.
At the bottom you will find something called Max Con and Max Dls in the software. Max Con is the number of connections it makes for downloading one file and Max Dls is the maximum number of concurrent links you want to download simultaneously. Ideally for a 1 Mbps connection Max Con is 10 and Max Dls should be 4 or 5 depending on what suits you best. For 2 Mbps , 4 Mbps so and so forth you can adjust these settings accordingly.

When all the links are downloaded this software will automatically extract the video inside the winrar files which is another convenient feature.
At this point you might ask what happens if the internet connection was lost or disrupted? Do you have to download the whole file from the beginning? No, definitely not for some of the sites like rapidshare, megaupload, filesonic etc. While downloading links from these websites if the connection is lost then you can resume from where it has stopped. That is a big advantage and saves lot of time.
Another example, What if you want to download some video you liked on youtube or any similar site? Once again you can just copy the URL of that video link from youtube keeping this Jdownloader open in the background. The link is grabbed and this time it will give you various options. You will have the option to download the video as 720p or 360p or 240p depending on the file. The same video can also be downloaded as mp3 file with audio only. All these downloads you can do it at maximum speed your internet connection offers.
