I am very happy and would like to share my experience by simplifying this procedure and make it as simple as possible for every one who wants to root their dell streak.
My Dell Streak details
GAUSB1A135100-EU
Android 2.2.2
2.6.32.9-perf
Build 15609
I updated dell streak using OTA few days back.

Detailed procedure of how I did it
--------------------------------
First I copied the file
1) superuser.zip to my SD Card
2) Installed the drivers for my dell streak R288920 on my Windows 7 x64 computer
3) Downloaded (2.5.0.1-streak-clockworkrecovery.zip), (StreakMod-Recovery.zip)
4) Extracted both of the zip files to separate folders
5) Disconnected the Dell streak from computer and switched it off
6) Took out the battery and inserted it after 10 seconds
7) Holding both volume up and down button Dell streak was put in the fastboot mode untill it said "waiting for fastboot usb detect"
8) Connected the Dell streak to the computer
9) Made a new folder and named it "streak-clockrecovery" and then copied the contents from extracted folder of 2.5.0.1-streak-clockwork recovery.
10) Copied the recovery.img from the extracted folder of streakmod-recovery to the "streak-clockrecovery" folder.
11) By now you should see the dell streak in "fastboot mode"
12) Open the "install-recovery-windows.bat" file and edit the contents as fastboot-windows.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
13) Save it
14) Run the "install-recovery-windows.bat" file and you should see "Download recovery done" on your Dell streak
15) Now you can make "install-reboot.bat" easily. open note pad and paste this command "fastboot-windows.exe -i 0x413c reboot" without quotes in it and save it as "install-reboot.bat".
16) Run the "install-reboot.bat". Dell streak will now reboot and keep holding up and down volume buttons untill you see Dell logo with exclamation mark and you shoulde see Android system recovery <2e> and select apply sdcard: update.zip
by pressing camera button
17) in the next screen you should see "apply sdcard:update.zip and choose zip from sd card" options
18) use volume button and select "choose zip from sdcard"
19) in the next screen you will see "superuser.zip" on top , select that by pressing camera button.
20) in the next screen you will find "confirm install? This can not be undone.
scroll down and select "Yes - Install superuser.zip"
21) Once the installation is done go back and reboot the Dell streak twice.
22) thats it. you will have superuser access.

Now I know that above process might be a bit confusing for some. I have made done all that work and therefore attaching the "streak-clockrecovery.zip" and "superuser.zip" file to this message
so that u can reduce the number of steps and finish it in 15 minutes.

after completing all the steps above in short procedure please see if superuser app is installed on your dell streak
and then install app called root check from app market. Its a very simple app which will help you know if you have root access.
I know there are many manuals out there and many procedures but I just wanted to keep everything at one place and make it as simple as possible.
