How to setup a remote desktop connection between two computers running on Windows XP

Let us assume there are two computers Computer 1 and Computer 2. Both are running Windows XP. You are trying to connect from Computer 2 from Computer 1 using Remote Desktop.

Note:- Computer 1 and Computer 2 should be in same network

On Computer 2

1)  Set a password for the account using which you logged into to the computer. For example:- you have a user called "Andrew". Then you have to set a password for this account. This is very important. Otherwise remote desktop connection won't work.

I have already set the password and that is why it is showing "change my password". If there is no password set it will show "create password".  By clicking on that you can set the password for the account

2) Enable Remote desktop

"Allow users to connect remotely" should be checked.

On Computer 1

1) Open Remote Desktop

To open Click on Start -> All Programs ->  Accessories --> Select Remote Desktop Connection

Type the ip address of the computer 2 and username Andrew

In this example the ip address of computer 2 is 192.168.0.129

Click on Connect.

3) Now a dialog box will open asking you to enter the password

Enter the right password and you should able to take remote of Computer 2

It is very simple procedure and takes hardly 5 minutes to setup.

Remote Desktop Connection is very useful and makes you feel as if you are sitting in front of the remote computer.

Without password it will give an error say "unable to logon because of account restriction"
